BRIDE VALLEY FLEDGLINGS Bride Valley Fledglings Preschool Thorner’s CE VA School School Lane Litton Cheney Dorchester DT2 9AU Tel: 01308 482410 Website: www.bridevalleyfledglings.co.uk In September 2005 the ‘Bride Valley Fledglings’, a playgroup for 3 to 5 year olds, formerly in Puncknowle, began operating from Thorners School. The stated aims of the Group are listed under three main headings: Personal, Social and Emotional Development This underpins all the areas - it is about confidence, self-esteem, control, relationships, attitudes and dispositions for learning and a sense of community.   Communication, Language and Literacy The majority of this area is about communication , there is a strand for language for thinking, a strand for reading and a strand for writing.   Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy This is concerned with the concept of numbers and how it is applied in everyday life, it includes numbers for labels and counting, calculating, shape, space and measured.   Fledglings is based at Thorner’s School with its own dedicated playroom - plus lots more facilities. We are open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays all day with hot lunches possible, or children can bring their own packed lunch.  If you have a child ready to come to pre-school ring Fiona Evans on 01308 482410, or just drop in to have a look around. FLEDGLINGS NEWSLETTER - MARCH 2010 The Committee meeting on the 16th January was well attended with a welcome to Lois Edwards, as the School Governor now attending in place of Sue Brown and to Mrs Chaffey, Thorners Head Teacher. Extra opening days were discussed, with staffing and costs to be investigated asap.  New ways of advertising will also be developed via websites and other suggestions.  There has been some successful fund raising with the Christmas sale raising £400 and the children's sponsored trike ride raising £90. On Thursday 1st March another Clothes Swap Evening is being held and Faye Avery is also going to take part in a 10km obstacle course run!!  Good Luck Faye.  Funds to be split between Fledglings and TSA, as will those raised by Sandy Burton when she does her half-marathon in Bath.  What fit mums! Also in LATCH on Saturday 17th March there will be a a Games 'n Dance Night from 7.30pm until midnight - tickets now available £10 each for dinner, games and music.  In June there willbe our summer event "A bit of a Do", which is fun and interesting, so the Committee have been very busy organising these. Fiona reported that new equipment had been purchased with some of the funds already raised - new letters and sounds kits and communication and listening games for the children.  The Home Corner has been relocated and is proving successful during play sessions with the children.  New uniforms have been received. Fledglings Pre-school is open all day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at present, based in its own dedicated room at Thorners School.  So, if you have a child ready to come to pre-school, come along and see for yourself or ring Fiona on 01308 482410.
